TeX and related programs such as LaTeX, MetaFont, BibTeX, MetaPost (often referred to as TeX and friends) form an advanced typesetting system for creating typographically high-quality documents. It is mainly aimed at creating mathematical and scientific documents, but is equally well suited for other complicated typesetting tasks such as long documents or multi-lingual documents and also works very well for everyday typesetting notes, letters, reports, etc. While it takes a little effort to learn, after you know how to use it, it can substantially simplify any document typesetting tasks.

This course provides an introduction to the core concepts of TeX/LaTeX with an emphasis of scientific publications. It is aimed at PhD students and anyone with a general understanding of how to use a computer. It may also in particular be suitable for BSc and MSc students who seek to find a better alternative to the typical typesetting systems to generate reports, coursework answers, etc.
